The only 3 percentage formulas you need

Almost every percentage question in daily life falls into one of these three:

X% of Y = (X ÷ 100) × Y
X is what % of Y = (X ÷ Y) × 100
% change = ((New − Old) ÷ Old) × 100

Example: ₹1,999 ki shirt par 30% discount = 30 ÷ 100 × 1999 = ₹599.70 off, so you pay about ₹1,399. Marks: 423 out of 500 = 423 ÷ 500 × 100 = 84.6%. Salary from ₹45,000 to ₹51,750 = (51,750 − 45,000) ÷ 45,000 × 100 = 15% hike.

FAQ

Discount wale "flat 30% off" mein kitna bachega?

Price ko Y maano, discount X% — result section 1 mein aa jayega. MRP ₹1,999 par 30% off = ₹599.70 discount. Agar "extra 10% off on discounted price" likha hai, toh pehle 30% wala result le kar us par phir 10% lagao — discounts multiply hote hain, add nahi.

Percentage aur percentage point mein farak kya hai?

Bada farak! Agar GST 12% se 18% hua, toh yeh 6 percentage points ka badhaav hai, lekin relative terms mein 50% ka increase (6 ÷ 12 × 100). News mein dono confusion karte hain — calculator section 3 se relative change nikaal sakte ho.

Exam marks ka percentage kaise nikale?

Section 2 use karo: X = marks obtained, Y = total marks. Multiple subjects ke liye pehle sab marks ka total karo, phir total marks se divide karo. Example: 5 subjects, 423/500 = 84.6%.

Salary hike % ya EMI interest — kaunsa section?

Hike: section 3 (old = current salary, new = revised). Interest rate comparison bhi section 3: old rate vs new rate ka relative change. GST amount nikalna ho toh section 1 (18% of bill).
